PATIENT SERVICES

Cancer Council of Reno County is committed to helping patients battling cancer that reside in Reno County. From medication co-pays, travel expenses, and other related costs, patients often encounter financial burdens while undergoing cancer treatment. To best assist our patients, we have two benefit categories.

  • The period after diagnosis has been made and during which therapies are being administered including surgical procedures to remove cancer, chemotherapy, or radiation. Patients in active cancer treatment period are allotted up to $4,500 per year in financial assistance for eligible services.

  • The period where the patient is no longer undergoing active treatment (chemotherapy, radiation) up to five years after initial cancer diagnosis. Patients in post cancer treatment period are allotted up to $2,000 per year in financial assistance for eligible services.

Each patient meets one-on-one with our Executive Director, Ashley Thompson. This personalized approach allows Ashley to offer specific ways in which CCRC can assist based on the patient and families’ individual needs.

Patient Centered Programs

Monkey in My Chair Program

Along with the diagnosis of a serious illness comes time away from school. Whether it is only a day here and there or maybe weeks or months at a time, this can be hard for the child and their classmates. Monkey in My Chair is a program originally developed in honor of Chloe Watson Feyerherm for pre-school and elementary aged children who are away from school because of a cancer diagnosis. As a result of Chloe’s experience, her mother, teachers and community got together to develop the Monkey In My Chair program through the efforts of their newly established charity, the Love, Chloe Foundation.

Through the program, each child is provided with a “monkey kit” which includes a big stuffed monkey that takes their place in school when they are unable to be there. Kits are provided at NO cost to families.

Cancer Council of Reno County is happy to have several Monkey in My Chair kits in stock for Reno County pediatric patients. To request a kit from CCRC fill out the following form.
